  I'm enjoying a lazy Saturday in my room, just catching up on celebrity gossip, drinking milk tea and flipping through the load of books I scored yesterday at the massive Hangzhou Foreign Language Bookstore. (Can I catch a break for reading Twilight if I'm reading it in Chinese translation? I can't understand "real" literature yet!)

I threw on this vintage Bob Dylan tee and flouncy black mini with a pair of sandals I picked up at the Beijing wholesale market and an amethyst necklace I made.

Which reminds me - I'm still on the hunt for the perfect amethyst cocktail ring. Tiffany has this gorgeous one, but at $800, it's just a tad out of my price range...  

Like my balcony? It's especially nice when it rains. Which it does, almost daily.

Magic, and other indulgences...

I have a confession to make.

I'm a huge nerd. The kind that can recite The Empire Strikes Back by heart, from start to finish (literally).

This fact has never gained me any street cred in the style community, but I've decided to risk it and come out of the closet anyway because I've just discovered a book series that I must share.

The Wheel of Time series, by Robert Jordan, is a fantasy masterpiece in the tradition of JRR Tolkien. Those of you who don't share my guilty enjoyment of quests and supernatural powers and other worlds, don't worry, I won't elaborate much further. Those of you that do - check it out. The world he creates is vivid and original, the story is archtypal and compelling, the characters (especially the women) are funny and easy to empathize with, and the narrative is quick-paced and totally addictive, without being banal. And... um... the clothes are cool. ;)

  

Book #1.

I know it looks like another terribly-written trashy paperback fantasy series. Trust me, just this once.
