I'm finally back in the 'Jing and settled into a daily routine, after an unforgettable break spent climbing peaks in Anhui and reveling in the cosmopolitan luxury of pre-World Expo Shanghai. Coming back down to reality after such a whirlwind has proven more than a little challenging.... Chances are good if you keep an eye on Bonbon! in the next few weeks, you'll find some more highlights (simply because I can't stop raving about that green apple-yuzu fois gras, Louboutins and berry bellinis at Xintiandi, and the virtues - not to mention ridiculous cool factor - of neon-blue illuminated overpasses).
Easing my transition, the weather has abruptly and with apparent finality, warmed from the low 50s to the mid 80s. I was in heaven - that is, until I realized how non-existant my current summer wardrobe is!
Anyone who knows me at all knows that solving this problem is only a matter of time (and not very much time, at that). Without further ado, here's a copy of my early-summer 2010 must-have list - the one that will undoubtedly be in my purse come tomorrow afternoon as I embark on my mission.
1) Loose cotton tank/tee dresses (wear with American Apparel bandeau bra tops if arm holes are too revealing)
I love the relaxed feel of this one by Mink Pink, though I'll probably search for something a little brighter. I'm a color fiend this season - I think I overdosed on gray and black during the winter months. You can find this dress, and tons of other adorable pieces, at my friend Esti's boutique www.buydefinition.com.
2) Perfect versatile denim shorts
You can dress them up with heels and a lightweight tucked-in blouse, or dress them down with flat sandals and a slouchy tee. I'm liking this Rich and Skinny pair - their dark wash, and combination of leg length and rise are just what I'm looking for.
3) Edgy, strappy, sky-high white sandals.
I want a white, heeled sandal that will never be mistaken for wedding or Easter Sunday wear. These Ann Demeulemeester buckled sandal boots would do just the trick, either toughening up a feminine skirt or adding height and a summery touch to a simple pair of skinny jeans.
4) Ocean-blue anything.
Need I say more? This one's from Victoria's Secret.
5) Candy-colored jelly flipflops
Why not kill two birds with one stone and get your ocean blue fix here? I've got my eye on these Vera Wang jelly sandals at Nordstrom.
6) Pleat-front, tapered-leg cropped pants
Like this Seventy Two Changes pair from Nordstrom. Except preferably in khaki. It's nothing personal, gray, I just really need some space right now.
7) Shockingly pink glossy, knee-high rain boots
These Hunter High Gloss rain boots might have to wait until August when I'm back in Texas due to luggage space constraints (I already have to fly with my massive paratrooper boots, ok?), but they WILL find a home in my closet before the rainy season ends.
